Birch bark responsibly harvested from naturally fallen white birch trees on my rural Ontario property is boiled, scrubbed, sanded, hand cut, and filed into 3/4 inch squares. The gently curved side is painted with a blend of ink colors to create these eclectic, one-of-a-kind vibrant grape-colored earrings that are as light as a feather. Striking and elegant, the earrings feature twisted brass jump rings forming a triangular chain at the bottom of each earring with a vintage gold-plated, hammered circle charm attached. The back concave side of the earrings is natural, unpainted, velvety soft birch bark. These statement earrings hang 2-3/4 inches from handmade 14k gold-filled ear hooks. Birch bark is organic and retains natural imperfections such as bumps and ridges, and the horizontal pores (lenticels) through which the tree can breathe lend character to any jewelry created with this eco-friendly natural material.
